Weekly Reflection #4

During the Professional Development (PD) sessions I found each very informative and the resources that were provided would greatly help my future classrooms.

I attended the More than Just Great Canadian Films K-12 session and the Digital Classroom for K-7, both with a broad spectrum of knowledge pertaining to the topics. The first session being the Digital Classroom for K-7, I found what Lisa Read had said about each tool like Click View and Twig. each provide video lessons and some videos that are paired with lessons for the teacher to present. Read mentioned how focused Ed would be available for all districts in BC, all with the same access to online tools. I thought this session was very helpful in setting me up with resources I could use in the future and things I could reference currently.

In addition to the Digital Classroom session, I took part in the More than Just Great Canadian Films K-12 session where the speakers talk about the importance of showing more films in the classroom. Their reasons being: films have the ability to show representation to kids who may not always feel seen in typical media or to share movies by local artists and communities. Within the session, attendees were prompted with questions we answered in a form. Some of those questions were for teachers already in a classroom which made them a little difficult to answer, but very insightful because from the answers the presenter was able to tailor resources to what the teachers were asking for. I felt this was a very helpful experience and I plan on revisiting the resources that were shared that day.
