Weekly Reflection #7

Inclusion supports in BC Education

I found it very insightful to discover all the different supports BC schools have. Even looking at the district websites I found it very helpful knowing the resources are right there. It is so easy to be able to look for these different ways to support the classroom and specific student, but I think some teachers just don’t have the knowledge that they are as accessible as they need them. I will be using some of the tools that this lesson and these websites have provided me, whether I have a student who outright needs them or for students who may just grow better with them. Each classroom composition is so different and it is unpredictable but being setup for those unpredictable moments can be avoidable when the teachers are aware of the personalized tools and supports that are offered to them, in a addition to that I think if teachers are unaware of the accessibility of these resources there should be some type of info session and implementation of basic needs students may need so the teacher wouldn’t have to ask for it.

I really liked reading about the different tools people with hearing impairments can have, like voice to text. From a website I had never heard of before, I learned that ARC-BC aims to help hearing impaired students with having the majority of their assistance be digital. And in addition to ARC-BC, SET-BC has the ability to loan out technology to schools who need them. I haven’t been to a school that does not have some sort of technology but I do know that many schools go without essential support that is not just an iPad. SET-BC allows those support to be readily accessible.
