Home Made Up Soup
As the half way point of the open inquiry, this soup did not have a recipe and used ingredients on a tight budget (things I found in my apartment). In addition to the tight budget, I had to base this recipe on past knowledge of making other soups.
Connecting this to the classroom, I’d integrate this into a social studies class by asking the class to write their own recipe based on other cultural recipes or recipes that make it into their weekly menu. We would have a lesson before this examining aspects of different cultures like holidays, traditions, food, clothes, etc. to extend this lesson the student would have the opportunity to document themselves making the recipe they wrote or found at home.
Gr. ⅞
First I diced the onions and minced the garlic.

In a hot pan I added the onions in some oil, once they were getting soft I added the garlic.

After the garlic started to get fragrant, I added the ground beef until browned.
Then, in went the second half of a jar of tomato sauce and a can of crushed tomatoes plus some chicken broth.

I added the last bit of rigatoni and some farfalle and let it simmer in the liquid for about 20 minutes.

Yummy!
