Old Fashioned Beef Barley Soup Mix – Mitchell’s Soup co.

This soup was a gift from my uncle who had made it previously. I had gone to his house and he was serving this recipe for dinner. I had asked for the recipe and he so kindly gave me the soup mix. This soup mix contained spices, lentils, dried beans, and barley. I had to add diced tomatoes and beef plus some additional vegetables. This is a very cozy and comforting soup for these rainy days. 

Applying this to the classroom, I would have students find a member of their community like a family member, neighbor, or friend to show them a recipe they like to make. With that recipe the student could make it themselves or write about who gave them the recipe and what kind of recipe it is. 

First I diced all the vegetables. 

Then in a warm pan I cooked the beef and onions until brown or soft. 

I then added half the contents of the pack. 

Then went in all the vegetables and the broth.
